Lightning photography tips

The whole of 2009 and 2010 had only few opportunities for storm chasing and I didn’t have my Canon 350d in my hands which means that you’ll see some kind of “recycling process”. Lightning photography is a very nice photography topic and there are many full or part time photographers who wants to have this kind of images in their galleries.

Just like I said before, English is not my native language so writing articles in English can be painful and time consumption process and I appreciate all comments and grammar corrections.

I love this blog but I don’t have enough time to post more articles and images… I spent some time in Rijeka, Opatija and other places in Istra (Croatia)… My Canon 350D was there too…

Something strange in the neighborhood

After so many days and holidays, after Christmas, New Year holidays, Easter holidays…. I finally found some time to visit Ribnik. Here are the few words about this great river from our friends from LTG Company.

The Ribnik river springs from under the Srnetica mountain near the vilage Gornji Ribnik. It springs from two strong springs whose volumes varies between 1.5 – 2.5 m3/s.

The smaller spring is shorter than the other (100 m) and much smaller based on the volume of water. Both springs joins, from where the river has characteristics of a mountain river. The trough oh the river is covered with the pebble and rocks. Somewhere, the rocks reach size of a half of a meter.

In the Ribnik vilage, the river does not have characteristics of a mountain river any more. The banks are soil, and water plants cover more than 50% of the trough oh the river. In these river plants live huge number of shrimp that are the basic source of food of grayling and brown trout.

LCD monitors for photography

If you are photo editor or photographer, you probably know how hard is to find a good LCD monitor. Actually, it is not hard if you have enough money in your wallet but if you are a student or your payment cannot reach up to $1000, it could be a serious problem. We are all agree that CRT monitors are almost history and if you have CRT monitor on your desk you can use it but only in case you can ignore some problems you may have (size, energy requirements, flickering). Canon EOS 7D

Canon EOS 7D is almost there… At least according to Chinese forum where I found this news. Is it fake or not, the time will tell. Parallel with EOS 7D announcement, Canon will present three new lenses:
EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS
EF-S 15-85mm f/3.5-5.6 IS
EF 100mm f/2.8 L IS USM Macro

I don’t speak Chinese but we can see basic info about EOS 7D
* Dual DIGIC 4 imaging processors, 14-bit A/D signal conversion
* 8 FPS (94 Large/Fine JPEGS or 15 RAW)
* 19 points cross type AF sensors. Eight-directional double cross central AF point
* 18 megapixels APS-C CMOS Sensor
* ISO 100-6400, extends to 12800
* 100% coverage, 1.0x optical viewfinder with intelligent display, with electronic horizon line.
* 3.0″ LCD, 920,000 dot resolution, 160 degree viewing angle
* New iFCL meter system using high contrast and color detection (63-zone)
* Newly-designed streamlined body, metallic shutter sound, shutter lifespan approx. 150,000 times
* HD movie, HDMI out, external mic input
* EOS Integrated Dust Removal system
* Live view with Face-priority AF
* Auto Lighting Optimizer
* Auto correction of lens peripheral illumination (vignetting)
* New switch for Live View/Video mode
* New 24mm wide-angle built-in flash supporting EOS E-TTL II

It looks like the Canon EOS 7D will be based on an APS-C (1.6x crop) CMOS sensor. Will it be fast enough to beat Nikon D300s?
