Firefox 2 is out

firefox

Firefox 2 is out. I am using this browser since version 0.x (I am not sure which one was first) and I like it. No spyware and other malicious software. Very fast browsing and it has all you need for safe surf through million suspicious Web sites.

New features (since version 1.5):

  • Resume your session! This feature will ask you to restore windows, tabs, text typed in forms, and in-progress downloads from the last user session. Users will be asked if they want to resume their previous session after a system crash.
  • Updated user interface and theme! Improved usability, without altering the familiarity of the browsing experience. Very nice look, if you asking me. J
  • A new built-in spell checker enables users to quickly check the spelling of text enteredfirefox1 into Web forms. Now you don’t need another applications for this. Misspelled word will have red line bellow.
  • Phishing protection included. This function warns users when they encounter suspected Web forgeries, and offers to return the user to their home page. It is turned on by default, and works by checking sites against either a local or online list of known phishing sites. List is automatically downloaded and updated when this feature is enabled. Very nice feature too.
  • As you type in the integrated search box, search term suggestions will appear when using the firefox2Google, Yahoo! or Answers.com search engines. Also, a new search engine manager gives you option to add, re-order or remove search engines. Firefox will alert users whenever encounters a website that offers new search engines that the user may wish to install.
  • Improved handle with Web feeds! Now users can decide how to handle Web feeds either subscribing to them via a Web service or in a standalone RSS reader. Also, user can add them as Live Bookmarks. Users can add any web service that handles RSS feeds or use included My Yahoo, Bloglines and Google Reader as Web service options.
  • Tabbed browsing is now improved. Firefox will open links in new tabs instead of new windows, and each tab have a close tab button. If you open more tabs than can fit in a single window, you will see arrows on the left and right side of the tab strip that let them scroll back and forth between their tabs. If you accidentally close tab, you can reopen it in the History menu with shortcut. It will keep a list of recently closed tabs, and a shortcut lets you to reopen closed tab quickly.
  • The new Add-ons manager improves the user interface for managing extensions and themes. In addition, it combines them both in a one tool.firefox3
  • Search engine format now supports search engine plugins written in Sherlock and OpenSearch formats and allows search engines to provide search term suggestions. Very usable function if you often use search.
  • The extension system has been updated to provide enhanced security and to allow for easier localization of extensions. Finding extensions is now very easy task.
  • Support for storing structured data on the client side. This enables better handling of online transactions and improved performance when dealing with large amounts of data (example documents or mailboxes). Based on the WHATWG specification.
  • Bookmarks with “Live Title”. Whenever a website offers a regularly updated summary of the most important information on a Web page, you can create a bookmark with a “Live Title”. It is compact enough to fit in the space available to a bookmark label. They will provide more useful information about pages than static page titles. This could be improved with add-ons to generate Live Titles for popular websites.
  • With included support for the svg:textpath specification, SVG text will follow a curve or shape.
  • Nullsoft Scriptable Install System makes installation very easy. Do not worry for you Bookmarks, settings or add-ons. It will ask you about them. Also all settings you made will be kept.
  • Improved Option page so you can easy setup all new functions.
