Sometimes the most subtle differences in the way you process an image using photoshop can have some dramatic affects on the final image. Here is another saturation technique that allows you more control, and uses the LAB mode once again.

We’re going to take this image of an old 1860’s manure spreader and make a subtle change to the grass and sky to add more depth and contrast.

First we need to change from RGB and convert to LAB mode.

Then we going to bring up the curves dialogue box by hitting ctrl + M.

Next we want to choose the “a” channel.

Make the grid squares smaller in the curves dialogue box by Alt + clicking anywhere on the grid.

While in the “a” channel, click and hold down the point at the top right most part of the grid. While still holding down the mouse, drag it two squares of the grid to the left as demonstrated in the image.

Grab the lower left corner point and drag it two squares right. Repeat the procedure in channel “b”. Covert your image back to RGB and you’re done!
