Photostand – free photoblog script

PhotoStand is a free script based on PHP/MySQL, which is especially made for photobloggers. If you want to publish your images on your own website with your own descriptions and articles, Photostand will help you. It is a made for photobloggers by photobloggers. Installation procedure and administration is very easy. In this article, I will try to cover basic instructions for installation and administration. After you read it, you will be able to install and publish photos on you own photoblog.

Before we start, here are the basic requirements:
• web hosting with PHP/MySQL (at least PHP 4.3.0 (GD library active) and MySQL 4)
• at least one MySQL database *

If you haven’t downloaded the latest version of Photostand yet, you’ll find it HERE. After you unzip Photostand on your local hard drive, you’ll need to upload all files (do not delete anything!) on your server. To upload the files, you will need an FTP program (Filezilla, Windows Commander, etc.). You can install Photostand on the root of your website or in any subdirectory (if you already have some files on your server, good idea is to make subdirectory, for example “photostand” and upload files inside).

To start with installation, you will need database informations: database server, username, password, database name and optional tables prefix. It is good idea to enter table prefix or leave it as it is (default “photostand_”). It helps you to use one database for different projects and scripts (for example you can use the same database for forum and photostand).

Open your web browser, enter http://your_web_address/subdirectory in adress bar and press Enter. Subdirectory is optional. (It is directory where you uploaded Photostand files). For example http://www.some-site.com/photostand. If you don’t want to use subdirectory, no problem. Just upload files to the root of your website and go to http://www.some-site.com/ to start with installation.
If upload was succesefull, you will see screen similar to image bellow.

Photostand

This screen will show you some informations about server. Also, this step of the installation process will automaticaly verify if your server is compatible with Photostand (PHP version, GD library, Safe Mode and chmod permissions). If everything is compatible, a “Continue” button will appear at the bottom right (press it).

Now you need to enter your database parameters, administrator username, password and email. Also you will need to choose language, enter your photoblog title, description and keywords. To go to next step, press “Continue”.

If everything was OK, you will see next screen.

Photostand

Before you begin with photoblog, delete both ‘install’ and ‘update‘ directories and you may need to set a CHMOD 777 on “images/photos/“, “images/thumbnails“, “includes/config.php” and “includes/settings.php“.
Remmeber, you must delete install and update for security reasons.

Now, all you need to do is to go to administration panel and start blogging.  Administration panel is on the address http://www.some-site.com/admin or

http://www.some-site.com/subdirectory/admin (if you use subdirectory for Photostand).

You can see your photoblog on address http://www.some-site.com/ or http://www.some-site.com/subdirectory.

More about Photostand you can find on HERE.

Right click on images/photos folder and select permissions. Then set a CHMOD 777 on “images/photos/“, “images/thumbnails“, “includes/config.php” and “includes/settings.php“.
Remmeber, you must delete install and update for security reasons.

Just like I wrote above :)
